A domestic disturbance at a downtown Nashville hotel early Thursday left one man dead and a woman hospitalized with a gunshot wound, according to Metro Nashville Police.
Officers responded to the Comfort Inn at 1501 Demonbreun Street around 12:50 a.m., where they found 34-year-old Edward Mazon of Goodlettsville dead from what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A 44-year-old Nashville woman was also found with a gunshot wound to the leg.
According to investigators, the woman told police the couple had been arguing throughout Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. She said she told Mazon she wanted to end the relationship and began packing her belongings. Police said Mazon made suicidal statements during the argument. As she turned to take items to her vehicle, she told investigators he shot her in the leg before suffering the apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where police said she is in stable condition.
Investigators also said Mazon had been arrested on June 10 for violating an order of protection involving the woman.
The investigation remains ongoing.
