(August 4, 2022) Shaquavius Moore, 24, of Illinois, will be charged tonight with one count of criminal homicide for the fatal shooting of Saniya Lofton, 19, and four counts of attempted criminal homicide after firing at Lofton’s family members, injuring three. Moore was taken into custody after he fled to Cheatham County and called authorities.
Moore was staying at the Stonebrook Apartments off Old Hickory Boulevard with his four-year-old nephew and the toddler’s 22-year-old mother. The 22-year-old was moving out with help from her 36-year-old cousin and her three children. When Moore returned to the apartment this afternoon to collect his belongings, an altercation ensued between those inside.
Moore admitted to shooting in the apartment. He claims the gunfire was in self-defense.
The 22-year-old mother of Moore’s nephew was injured, as well as her 36-year-old cousin and one of the 36-year-old’s 16-year-old sons. The other 16-year-old son escaped the shooting by jumping out of a second story window. All four were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive. The 4-year-old was unharmed.
Lofton, the third of the 36-year-old’s children present, was pronounced dead at the scene.
