Nashville police used drone technology to help arrest two robbery suspects Tuesday afternoon following an incident outside a business on Robinson Road.
Hermitage Precinct officers responded to an active robbery call at 931 Robinson Road, where the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Drone as First Responder pilot program provided live aerial footage of the scene.
Police said the video showed 49-year-old Antonio Crews holding a box cutter while grabbing the victim by his shirt during the robbery. The victim told officers he transferred $200 to Crews through a cash app and handed $100 in cash to a second suspect, 23-year-old Donavon Steele.
Both men were taken into custody. Police recovered the $100 in cash from Steele and returned it to the victim.
With help from the drone overhead, officers also located the box cutter hidden beneath a stack of pallets near where the robbery occurred.
Crews, of Nashville, is charged with aggravated robbery, while Steele, of Clarksville, is charged with robbery for allegedly acting with Crews during the crime.
Both men remain jailed on $25,000 bond.
The Drone as First Responder pilot program currently covers an area within a two-mile radius of the Madison Precinct, where the drones are launched.
