Chief John Drake Announces Appointments and Promotions of 48 Men and Women to New Supervisory Roles

Chief John Drake today announced the appointments and promotions of 48 individuals to the ranks of commander, captain, lieutenant, and sergeant effective Monday, January 30.

“I am excited that these 48 men and women have the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills in new ways while carrying out our mission of helping people through organizational excellence, community engagement and precision policing,” Chief Drake said.

Three captains are being appointed commanders:

Michael Buchanan, a 14-year police department veteran who will continue directing operations at the Specialized Investigations Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University.

Lee Kendall, a 21-year police department veteran, is directing operations at the West Precinct. Kendall formerly was the Executive Officer in the Community Services Bureau. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Campbellsville University and a Master’s Degree from Cumberland University.

Ken Walburn, a 23-year police department veteran, is directing operations at the Hermitage Precinct. Walburn formerly headed the Traffic Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Northwood University.

Five lieutenants are being promoted captains:

Anthony Brooks, a 17-year police department veteran who will continue as a supervisor in the Office of Alternative Policing Strategies. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Union University.

Kelly Cantrell, an 11-year police department veteran who will be assigned to Fiscal Affairs. Cantrell formerly worked in the Strategic Development Division. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa State University.

Tiffany Gibson, an 18-year police department veteran who will oversee operations at Background & Recruiting. Gibson formerly was a supervisor at the Training Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Belmont University.

Zachary Huber, an 11-year police department veteran who will now be the Executive Officer in the Community Services Bureau. Huber formerly served as that Bureau’s special projects coordinator. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree from Bethel University.

Raymond Jones, a 15-year police department veteran who will lead the Traffic Division. Jones formerly directed the Central Precinct’s evening shift. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University.

Fourteen sergeants are being promoted lieutenants:

Alfredo Arevalo, a 13-year police department veteran who will remain a supervisor in the Office of Professional Accountability. Arevalo holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University.

Matthew Boguskie, a 13-year police department veteran who will lead the Specialized Investigations Division’s Neighborhood Safety Unit. Boguskie is presently a supervisor at the Training Academy. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Christopher Bowden, a 21-year police department veteran who lead the Endangered & Vulnerable Investigations component of the Youth Services Division. Bowden is presently assigned to the South Precinct’s Investigations Unit. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Eastern Gateway Community College.

Daniel Brown, an 11-year police department veteran who will lead the South Precinct’s evening shift. Brown is presently a supervisor in the Violent Crimes Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Austin Peay State University.

Christopher Holden, an 11-year police department veteran who will lead the East Precinct’s evening shift. Holden is presently a supervisor at the South Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Joshua Lefler, a 9-year police department veteran who will lead the Vehicle Crimes Section of the Violent Crimes Division. Lefler is presently a supervisor in that Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska.

Jason Murrell, a 10-year police department veteran who will lead the North Precinct’s overnight shift. Murrell is presently a supervisor at the Madison Precinct.

Paul Stein, a 9-year police department veteran who will lead the Central Precinct’s Entertainment District Unit. Stein is presently a supervisor in the Alternative Police Response Unit. Stein holds an Associate’s Degree from Seminole State College.

Noble Taylor, a 21-year police department veteran who will lead the North Precinct’s evening shift. Taylor is currently assigned to the Office of Community Outreach and Partnerships. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University.

Doug Thibodeaux, a 20-year police department veteran who will lead the South Precinct’s day shift. Thibodeaux was formerly assigned to the Human Resources Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Law Degree from the Nashville School of Law.

Stephen Weir, a 13-year police department veteran, who will lead the East Precinct’s overnight shift. Weir is currently a supervisor at the Midtown Hills Precinct. Weir holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University.

Joe Winter, a 21-year police department veteran who will remain as a supervisor in the Specialized Investigations Division. Winter holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Michael Wolterbeek, an 8-year police department veteran who will lead the Hermitage Precinct’s overnight shift. Wolterbeek is currently a supervisor at the South Precinct. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Marion Military Institute.

William Wright, an 11-year police department veteran who will lead the Central Precinct’s evening shift. Wright is currently a supervisor for Central’s Bike Unit. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Twenty-six officers are being promoted sergeants:

Phillip Black, an 8-year police department veteran, who will be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s evening shift. Black is presently a Domestic Violence detective. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University.

Byron Boelter, an 18-year police department veteran, who will be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s evening shift. Boelter is presently a School Resource Officer.

Bryan Byrnes, an 8-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Central Precinct’s overnight shift. Byrnes is presently a detective in the Special Victims Division. Byrnes holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Mercyhurst University.

James Caruth, a 15-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s overnight shift. He is presently a Madison Precinct detective.

Justin Coyle, a 13-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the East Precinct’s day shift. Coyle is presently an officer at the Training Academy. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

David Crisman, a 5-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s evening shift. Crisman presently serves as an officer at the North Precinct.

William Durham, an 11-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Madison Precinct’s overnight shift. Durham presently serves as a detective at the South Precinct. Durham holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University.

Peter Finnegan, a 9-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s overnight shift. Finnegan is presently a detective in the Special Victims Division. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Amery Freeman, a 6-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor in the Special Victims Division. She is presently a Sex Crimes detective.

Gerald Gomes, a 20-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Midtown Hills Precinct’s day shift. Gomes is presently an officer at the South Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Pace University.

Brandon Hazzard, a 22-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s evening shift. Hazzard is presently a motorcycle officer in the Traffic Division. Hazzard holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University.

Kelsey Hemminger, a 5-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the West Precinct’s evening shift. Hemminger is presently an officer at the East Precinct. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University.

Marvis Malone, a 6-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor at the East Precinct. Malone is presently a Violent Crimes detective. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Austin Peay State University.

Goran Manojlovic, a 6-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Manojlovic is presently an officer at the East Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois.

Patrick Martin, a 7-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s evening shift. Martin is presently an officer at the South Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee Technological University.

Timothy Mead, an 12-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s overnight shift. Mead is presently an officer in the Traffic Division.

Michael Moss, a 9-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s overnight shift. Moss is presently an officer at the Midtown Hills Precinct.

Codey Mullins, an 8-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the East Precinct’s evening shift. Mullins is presently a Homicide Unit detective.

Khanthasith Phothirath, a 20-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor in the Dignitary Protection Unit where he is currently assigned. Phothirath holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Edin Plancic, a 7-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s evening shift. Plancic is presently a detective at the Midtown Hills Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Kentucky University.

James Reese, a 15-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Central Precinct’s overnight shift. Reese is presently a Youth Services detective. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Carson Newman College.

Clinton Schroeder, a 10-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the West Precinct’s overnight shift. Schroeder is presently a Homicide Unit detective.

Jonathan D. Sheppard, a 6-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Shepherd is presently an officer at the Madison Precinct. Shepherd holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Union University.

Justan Vance, a 6-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s day shift. Vance is presently an officer at the Madison Precinct. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Corey Wilson, a 20-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor in the Dignitary Protection Unit where he is currently assigned. Wilson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Daryn Yentes, a 5-year police department veteran who will be a supervisor on the Madison Precinct’s overnight shift. Yentes is presently a South Precinct detective.
