16-Year-Old Wanted for a Nashville Murder Arrested in Louisville, KY

A 16-year-old being sought for the last month’s murder of Gerald Leroy Jr., 41, in the Preston Taylor development is in custody along with his mother in Louisville, Kentucky. Deputy U.S. Marshals this afternoon apprehended Mondrell and Sharon Newsome.

Investigation by Homicide Unit Detective Will Mathis led to the identification of Mondrell Newsome as the suspect in the 3:30 p.m. June 11th fatal shooting of Leroy in the 3900 block of Preston Taylor Place. Robbery may have been the motive. Newsome is believed to be the person in a publicly released surveillance photograph of the suspected shooter fleeing the scene. He is named in a Davidson County Juvenile Court arrest order charging criminal homicide.

Sharon Newsome, 41, is wanted on outstanding Nashville warrants charging her with felony aggravated assault and probation violation. She is accused of hitting a 43-year-old woman in the head with a gun during a 2019 dispute on Charles E. Davis Boulevard. She was on probation in regard to a 2015 felony cocaine conviction for which she received a 10-year sentence.
