Emma Jane (Ejay) Vidrine, passed away on April 20, 2024, in Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her mother Lily Ruth (Freeman), father Wallace Eugene Vidrine Sr. and brothers Wallace Eugene (Gene) Vidrine Jr. and Charles Lee Vidrine (Ercyl).

She is survived by nieces Susie Baker (Buzz) and Elyse Claire (Vidrine) Moore (Gary); nephews Edwin Charles Vidrine (Dana), Rick Vidrine, David Vidrine and Michael Wayne Vidrine Sr.; great nephew Chad Baker (Cherin), great niece Selina Galloway (Joel), great-grandniece Kaylee Nicole Baker and extended family members.

Miss Vidrine was a graduate of Milby High School in Houston and Texas State College for Women where she received a BS degree in Advertising Design. She studied at The Art Center in Los Angeles and Parsons School of Design in New York City.

She moved to Nashville to work at the Baptist Sunday School Board (LifeWay Christian Resources) in August 1951. She first worked in photography, then the art department, where she designed four volumes of The Christian Classics (Broadman) and served on the production staff of The Family Worship Bible, Holman Bible Dictionary and Holman Handbook. She retired in February 1992.

Miss Vidrine was a member of First Baptist Church in Nashville for 73 years. She was a lifetime member of the sanctuary choir, served on several committees, was active in mission activities and participated in numerous international mission trips. By serving on the history committee, she hoped to preserve facts, photos and information about the church for future generations. She designed programs for Broadway Dinner Theatre productions such as “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Crazy for You,” “Anything Goes” and “My Fair Lady.”

She was a keen observer, often going undetected. Over her years in the sanctuary choir, she compiled ‘instructions’ (quotes) from ministers of music from Neil Darnell to Joe Fitzpatrick.

Miss Vidrine was an avid worker of jigsaw puzzles and spent many an hour working on counted cross-stitch projects, particularly those featuring the artwork of Charley Harper. She also enjoyed hiking in the Smokies and Canadian Rockies.

Visitation for Miss Vidrine will be on Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Nashville, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/nashville-tn
