The high-ceilinged space that used to hold a swimming pool at Whites Creek High School is now a soaring multipurpose room where the Cobras’ athletes and band members can practice and community members can meet.
Whites Creek cut the ribbon on the new indoor facility – the first of its kind in the district – last Friday morning, four days before the start of the 2021-22 school year. Speaking to school and district leaders, students, alumni, and other supporters, Principal Brian Mells said he has high hopes for the multipurpose room.
“We are very excited about this opportunity,” Mells said. “We really believe this will bring our community together at Whites Creek High School.”
“There is nothing stopping Whites Creek from being what it has always been destined to be,” said Board of Education member Dr. Sharon Gentry, who represents the area. “You’ve been the best. You’re going to be the best.”
After the ceremony, members of the Whites Creek marching band lined up on the new indoor field for a display of their routines. Football players also were there to see the new space.
The multipurpose room is now available for meetings and events, Mells said. Nearby Alex Green Elementary School, which is in the Whites Creek cluster, has already scheduled one.
