January 12, 2024 – Coordinated police work Wednesday led to the arrest of Monte Simpson, 22, and Kiara Smith, 21, who now face multiple charges related to outstanding warrants, evading arrest, and vehicle burglaries.

Central Precinct Sergeant Brian Brown notified Vehicle Crimes detectives about a black Chrysler 200 involved in at least five auto burglaries that occurred earlier in the day in a parking garage at 1010 Church Street and nearby at 101 Platform Way N. Detectives located the suspect car at Apple Annie’s motel, 1333 Dickerson Pike. The Chrysler had been confirmed stolen. Smith entered a room at the motel where she was taken into custody. Recovered from her room were two vehicle programmers and a purse belonging to one of the auto burglary victims. She is charged with multiple counts of auto burglary, vehicle theft, and key fob possession with intent to commit theft. She is being held on $148,000 bond.

Earlier in the investigation, Monte Simpson was linked to Smith. When detectives attempted to stop Simpson, who was driving an Infinity sedan bearing a license plate registered to a Dodge Charger, he fled. A police helicopter pilot followed Simpson who drove to 500 Brooksboro Terrace where he was taken into custody. Recovered from the sedan were 20 firearm magazines, two Glock boxes, three weapon lights, and seven key fobs. He was charged with evading arrest and improper vehicle registration. Simpson also had four outstanding warrants for two counts of aggravated stalking, aggravated assault, and evading arrest. He is being held in lieu of $111,000 bond.
