Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes on I-24 in Nashville over the weekend.
Sunday’s 6:30 p.m. crash happened on I-24 West and I-440 West. A 23-year-old was driving his Honda CBR motorcycle onto the I-440 westbound ramp from I-24 when, for reasons unknown, he ran off the right shoulder of the exit ramp at a curve into the guardrail.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. Efforts are currently underway to notify his family.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Toxicology testing will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if impairment was a factor.
Another motorcyclist was killed following Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. crash on I-24 East between Bell Road and Haywood Lane. Matthew Arevalo, 22, of Texas, was driving his Kawasaki motorcycle when he is believed to have been sideswiped by an unknown white vehicle as he attempted to pass between vehicles.
The reported collision with the white vehicle caused the motorcycle to strike a Mini Cooper in the next lane that was stopped due to traffic. Arevalo was separated from his motorcycle before it slid into a retaining wall and caught fire.
Arevalo died at the scene. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.
The Mini Cooper remained at the scene. Neither occupant was injured.
There were no signs of impairment on part of either driver.
