A 16-year-old student at James Lawson High School was arrested Monday morning after a stolen pistol was discovered in his backpack, WSMV reports.
School authorities say the weapon detection system flagged the gun as the student entered the building. Police found an extended magazine and loose rounds of ammunition in the backpack along with the firearm.
Officials confirmed the gun was reported stolen during a 2017 home burglary. The student is now in police custody.
