Homicide Unit detectives have obtained a criminal homicide warrant against Teddarrius Perry, 30, following Thursday evening’s fatal shooting of Mitchell Steele Jr., 29, on 14th Avenue North after an exchange of gunfire with Perry’s neighbor. The investigation revealed Perry and his neighbor were in an ongoing dispute.
The neighbor had enlisted his friend, Steele, to help him move out of his apartment Thursday. After a brief confrontation on the sidewalk outside, the neighbor shot at Perry.
A shootout ensued between the neighbor and Perry. Steele was struck multiple times.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Perry was found a short time later walking near 15th Avenue North and Cass Street. He fled when asked to stop.
Officer Alec Pellissier observed Perry had a handgun prior to the pursuit. Officer Pellissier successfully deployed a taser to get Perry into custody.
Perry was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a minor graze wound to his leg. He was discharged and booked on several warrants, including resisting arrest, weapon possession and drug possession.
