Street Theatre Company has officially found a new home. After searching for a perfect venue to continue high-quality, innovative fringe theatre, STC is excited to announce a long-term residency at The Barbershop Theater.

The move also joins STC with co-resident Verge Theater Company, as a part of The Barbershop Theater Collective. Both Street Theatre Company and Verge will announce upcoming performances soon.

Located at 4003 Indiana Ave, The Barbershop Theater has been a beloved venue in the Nashville theatre community since 2018. Named by The Nashville Scene as the “Best Place to See Plays,” The Barbershop Theater is “small and intimate in a way that underscores the immediacy of live performance while engaging audiences in an entirely different way than if they were in a larger proscenium space” (Jeffrey Elis, Broadway World).

“Street Theatre has been one of the leading professional theatres in the Nashville area, producing off-the-beaten-path productions that Nashville audiences normally wouldn’t get the chance to see,” says STC Artistic Director Randy Craft. “Before Covid, we had a fantastic home that allowed us to produce some amazing works like THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, BE MORE CHILL, SWEAT, and THE TOXIC AVENGER. After COVID shut down our flow of income, we were forced to leave our space on Elm Hill Pike. The soaring cost of real estate in the city has made finding a new home nearly impossible. Working out this deal with the Barbershop alongside one of my favorite theatre makers in town, Alicia Haymer, and Verge Theater is allowing both our companies to co-mingle in a space to build our community. Verge is doing fantastic and important work, and it’s exciting to see three separate organizations (Street, Verge, and The Barbershop) with similar missions and goals working together to offset the rising costs in Nashville. The future looks bright and full of incredible art!”

“We are thrilled to develop this new partnership,” says Barbershop Theater’s Nettie Kraft and Graham Mote. “We opened in 2018 with the hopes that we could make a small affordable space for local theater and performing arts. We helped found Verge, and our mission and goals match perfectly with Street. We are grateful that this partnership will allow us to remain open, and we are optimistic that it will help all 3 organizations grow and thrive.”

“We are very excited about this new partnership with Verge and The Barbershop Collective,” adds Alicia Haymer, Co-Artistic Director of Verge Theater Company with Nettie Kraft. “I believe in collaborative work, and that no one does anything alone. This partnership will only move each company further in reaching their individual and collective goals for the future.”

In celebration of the residency & new partnership, Street Theatre Company will be hosting an Open House at the Barbershop Theater (4003 Indiana Ave) on January 8th from 2-5pm. Come hear the big plans for upcoming shows as well as great performances while enjoying some food & drink!
