Sperry’s Restaurant — the legendary Nashville steakhouse owned by Al and Trish Thomas will open Cafe Sperry’s and Sperry’s Mercantile in Bellevue in March 2024 at 7745 Hwy 70 S. Located in the 6,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Shoney’s next to the Royal Range, the new Sperry’s Mercantile will be the second outpost of the company’s market concept. Cafe Sperry’s is an entirely new venture that will bring a drive-thru and dine-in craft coffee shop to the neighborhood. Sharing the same roof will be a fulfillment center for SperrysMeats.com, which will be a launching pad for the new e-commerce division of Sperry’s that will ship Sperry’s meats and seafood plus a variety of sides and gourmet items nationwide.

“As residents of Bellevue, my wife and I are excited to bring Sperry’s Mercantile and Cafe Sperry’s to the neighborhood,” says Owner Al Thomas. “The opening couldn’t be more timely, aligning with the 50th anniversary of Sperry’s Restaurant, a milestone I am proud to hit as a second-generation family business owner. If only my father and uncle could see how the business is thriving fifty years after they first opened the doors to Sperry’s in 1974. It means a lot to my family to usher in this next chapter of our business around the corner from our home.”

Sperry’s Mercantile in Bellevue will closely mirror the original market and butcher shop in Belle Meade selling many of the same items served at Sperry’s Restaurant including quality meats and fresh seafood and their house-made signature sides, salad dressings, sauces, seasonings, and desserts. Curated grocery items will also be available including everything from locally-sourced eggs and produce to pantry staples like pastas, condiments and spices. Customers can peruse the many offerings or order ahead for in-store pickup Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cafe Sperry’s will bring the first drive-thru craft coffee shop to Bellevue with a full coffee, tea and espresso menu alongside sweet and savory pastries plus grab-n-go sandwiches and snacks. The decor will draw heavy inspiration from that of Sperry’s Restaurant. The cafe will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for dine-in or drive-thru service.

Founded in 1974 by brothers Houston and Dick Thomas, Sperry’s Restaurant is a Nashville institution known for its quality meats and fresh seafood, plus Nashville’s first salad bar with signature dressings, and Old English steakhouse decor. Al Thomas, Houston’s son, purchased the business from his father and uncle in 2000 and applied his decades of experience working in the hospitality industry to perfecting the family business while remaining true to the original concept. The menu and decor remain largely unchanged today, drawing record crowds of Nashvillians and visitors who crave an original taste of Music City in the face of the city’s continued growth.

Al Thomas expanded the business in 2006 with the opening of Sperry’s Restaurant in Cool Springs and again in 2015 with the opening of Sperry’s Mercantile located behind the restaurant in Belle Meade, a business that played second fiddle to the restaurant until the pandemic when customers flocked to the market in droves to get the Sperry’s Restaurant experience at home. The momentum continues today with record sales year over year. SperrysMeats.com was launched in 2023 to deliver the same food offered in the famed restaurant to customers nationwide, an arm of the business the Thomases hope to expand with the new Bellevue enterprise.
