The pursuit of a stolen vehicle on May 9, 2023 led Violent Crimes detectives to arrest a Memphis man after he fled from them on two occasions. An MNPD aviation unit began following a gold Cadillac, that recently hit on a license plate reader in North Nashville with a stolen license plate, when it stopped in a parking lot on Charlotte Pike.

Detectives attempted to approach the vehicle when it fled onto I-40 West. Detectives and aviation followed the Cadillac from a distance until it pulled into a gas station on Highway 70 South.

Once again detectives attempted to block the vehicle and approach the driver. The driver accelerated towards a police vehicle, striking a detective, who was not seriously injured, before reversing and hitting another police car. The driver fled onto Highway 70 South.

A pursuit was initiated at that point. The driver refused to stop and recklessly continued into oncoming traffic nearly causing multiple, serious crashes at a high rate of speed.

The Cadillac eventually went into Cheatham County before returning a short time later and stopped in the area of Sneed Road where the driver exited the vehicle.

Roderick Poindexter, 31, was arrested and was found to have numerous full extradition warrants from Memphis for drug and weapon related offenses. The Cadillac he was driving was stolen from Southaven, Mississippi, in an April armed carjacking.

Poindexter was charged with aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading arrest, reckless driving, vandalism, motor vehicle theft, and theft of property. He is currently being held in lieu of $82,000 bond.
