The City of Goodlettsville announces that Pleasant Green Pool is set to open Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 27th at 10am. After 3 years of closures, this announcement carries more weight than a typical yearly opening and that fact does not escape city leadership.

“As the summer season was approaching in 2020, the city made the difficult decision to keep the pool closed as Covid-19 was ramping up in our community,” said Tim Ellis, City Manager. “Since that year, we have not been able to hire the minimum number of lifeguards required to operate the pool, added Ellis.

The city is required to have 12 guards based on a combination of current hours of operation, health department requirements for number of guards on active duty at one time, and shift needs to ensure staff are provided adequate breaks from the heat.

Year after year, the City has tried various approaches to reach and hire lifeguards, including job fairs, increased pay and paid advertising. Ultimately, a transparent plea on Facebook was what finally worked for this pool season.

“We were at a point in the hiring process where we needed to make a decision quickly so we did one last push asking for the community to help us staff the facility and they did just that. Our applicant pool went from four candidates to 35 overnight,” said Sarah Jennings, Director of Parks & Recreation. “The community response from our call to action is a true testament to the impact that this pool has in our community. After a few years hiatus, we are more than happy to have this amenity re-open to the citizens of Goodlettsville and the surrounding area, “added Jennings.
