Taishaun Jackson, 24, has been charged with criminal homicide for Monday’s 11:30 a.m. fatal shooting of Lawrence Edwards, 54, outside a market at 37 Lewis Street.
A review of surveillance video showed the suspect walk toward Edward’s pickup truck and fire several rounds into the vehicle, striking him. Edwards was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Witnesses provided responding officers with an excellent suspect description. Jackson, who was wearing distinctive clothing and carrying a grey backpack, was located within minutes of the shooting. As he fled, he was seen throwing an object over a fence. Officers recovered a firearm in a tree from inside the fenced area.
Detectives attempted to interview Jackson but he claimed to have amnesia. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
