My feisty mother with the sweetest smile ever passed away Friday, September 1, 2023. She would have been 102 years old on the 27th of this month.
Willie Mae Haney Dudley was born in Cornersville, TN on September 27, 1921 to Lebert and Noona Haney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Lawrence Dudley; son, Larry “Bubba” Dudley; sister, Mildred and brother-in-law, Afton Rains; brother, Dewey and sister-in-law, Mary Frances Haney; son-in-law, Vaughan Brothers; granddaughter, Connie Dudley; and nephews, Hal Haney and Bobby Benningfield.
Survived by daughter, Beverly Dudley Brothers; grandchildren, Jody {Jacinta) Brothers, Jeff (Tracy) Brothers, Toby Dudley, Beau (Stacy) Dudley and DeeAnna Dudley (John) Dillon; she is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and nieces, Glenda Benningfield, Nancy (Phil) Huddleston and Vicki Haney.
She was a faithful member of Woodbine United Methodist Church since 1939 and for 25 years worked for Metro Parks and Recreation. During that time, she served as director of the George Lawrence Dudley Memorial Community Center at Coleman Park. Following her dedicated service and positive impact on so many, she retired in 1982. Mother was so precious and will be truly missed by her family and the many friends she loved so dearly.
As it has been said, “The way I see it, if something makes you sad when it ends, it must have been pretty wonderful when it was happening.” It certainly was.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road by Pastor Carlos Uroza. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jody Brothers, Jeff Brothers, Toby Dudley, Beau Dudley, John Dillon and Tommy Baucom.
