It is with great sorrow that we advise of the untimely death of William Fleming “Bill” Hodge, on April 1, 2024. This came soon after some challenging and surprising health issues of relatively short duration.
Bill was born February 1, 1957, to James Lee, Jr and Mae Fleming Hodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two brothers – Lee Crawford and Hunter McAlpine Hodge.
It was in typical Bill fashion that he passed away on April 1, 2024, as he loved a “good” bad dad joke. He was a rugby player (Belushi), gourmet cook and storyteller. He was a man of many words. His smile lit up a room, and his encouragement was felt by all. He had “the most beautiful tenor voice on this planet” and sang with the Nashville Symphony Chorus for over 25 years. He also sang with the Heimermann Chorale and most recently with Trinity United Methodist Church. He formed many lasting friendships through these associations.
He met his wife, Lesa, during their years of community theatre. They married in 1994, and he loved her fiercely until his last breath. Together they had two sons. He was very proud of them and taught them so many things…cooking, rugby, music, faith. He taught them to always do their best and to love the Lord, above all.
One of his absolute favorite memories was when he got to play a rugby match WITH them.
When Bill wasn’t working or singing or cooking or watching rugby, he was watching GA football. He was an avid fan from the time he knew what football was. GO DAWGS!
Bill graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy and attended the University of GA, studying physics. (And he loved wearing Hawaiian shirts.)
Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lesa McAlister Hodge; sons, William McAlister “Will” Hodge (Anais), James Murray ”Jake” Hodge (Amanda); brother, James Winfield “Jay” Hodge (Beth), brother-in-law Michael McAlister (Melissa). Nieces – Mandi McAlister Rutherford (Stacy), Katie Hodge, Kelsey “Sam” Hodge and nephew Carter McAlister (Niki). There are greats, as well – Macy, Brooklyn, Ailah and Atlas. Jackson preceded him to Heaven.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Rural Hill Church of Christ, 564 Bell Road. His service is at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 – with visitation at 10:00 a.m., also at Rural Hill Church.
In lieu of flowers (that Lesa will unwittingly kill) donations may be made to: Nashville Rugby Football Club or Wounded Warriors.
Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel is handling the arrangements. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
