Virgie Lee Boardman of Nashville, Tennessee was born on November 12, 1942 in Bradford, Kentucky to parents Ray and Mae Wedding – one of 6 children. She passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 82 years of age. She was a resident of The Oaks Assisted Living community in Gilbert, Arizona where she lived since April of 2024.
Virgie was predeceased by her husband, George Michael Boardman; father, Raymond Wedding; mother, May Margaret (Hulet) Wedding; brothers, Donald and Robert Wedding; and sister, Brenda Baldanza.
She is survived by her son, Gregory (Rhonda) Boardman; grandsons James (Misty) Boardman and Cameron Kevin Kingsley; great-grandchildren Rosalie Marie Boardman and Damon Kane Boardman. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Raymond Wedding of Louisville, Kentucky, and sister Wanda Buffington of Florence, Mississippi.
Virgie was raised on a farm in Pendleton County, Kentucky. In 1957 she, graduated from Harrison County High School. She married George Michael Boardman on June 19, 1965.
In 1971, they adopted their son, Gregory Boardman, then moved to Opelika, Alabama in 1972 where Virgie worked as a kindergarten teacher for Spane’s Kiddy Castle. After the family moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1978, Virgie worked for Easter Seals, a nonprofit organization that provided disability services to veterans and military families, seniors, and caregivers between 1979 and 1980. She joined The Kroger Company in 1980 where she worked until 2002 as a pricing assistant in their corporate offices on Elm Hill Pike. Her work friends and associates often referred to her as “mother hen”, an endearment to her care and consideration for her colleagues.
A self-described “country girl”, Virgie was fond of her humble upbringing and often regaled family, friends and caregivers with stories about the labors of farm life from her youth. She enjoyed reading and staying up on current affairs, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Rosie and Damon.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Tulip Grove Room at the funeral home. Following the service, Virgie will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Michael, in the Garden of Rachel at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
