Vernie Elizabeth Cates-Biggs, age 62, a resident of Goodlettsville, previously of Columbia, passed away Friday, August 6, 2022, at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.
Born on March 20, 1960, in Nashville, Vernie was the daughter of the late Paul Cates and the late Della Pike Cates.
She attended Ross Elementary and graduated from East High School. Vernie worked as a nurse tech and phlebotomist for many years. She loved cooking and online gaming, and years ago, enjoyed crocheting. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her sons, Joshua Biggs (Ivonne Mercado) of Springfield, TN, Patrick “PJ” (Julie) Anthony of Clarksville, TN, Jeremy Freshour of Arizona, brothers, Homer “Eddie” Cates of Columbia, TN, Michael Cates of Columbia, TN, sister, Sandra “Sandy” (Jeff) Nix of Hohenwald, TN, grandchildren, William Biggs, Ekani Biggs, Ryder Biggs, Hunter Anthony, Lilly Anthony, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Homer and Luella Cates, and brother David Cates.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chapel Grove Cemetery in Summertown. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Biggs, William Biggs, Terry Cates, Dave Cates, Jaden O’Connor, and Joe-Joe O’Connor. Family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
