Mr. Thomas R. Downey of Goodlettsville, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, he was 86 years old.
Born October 28, 1935 in Waverly, TN, Thomas was the son of the late Elmer Reese Downey and Ellen Elizabeth Gordon Downey.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vernelle Hayes Downey; 6 brothers, Elmer Downey Jr., Franklin Downey, Leon Downey, Ward Downey, W.T. Meredith, and Crain Downey; 5 sisters, Melba Downey, Grace Holmes, Lela Gordon, Nell Henry, and Ruby Barrett; his father-in-law, Vernon Hayes; his mother-in-law, Nettie Mae Hayes; and 4 brothers-in-law, Marshall Hayes, Douglas Hayes, Gilbert Jenkins, and Carlie Cook; and his sister-in-law, Katie Dawson.
Thomas was raised and educated in Buffalo and Hohenwald, TN. He served in the US Army and had been called up for a second time after his initial discharge from the service.
Thomas had a 38-year career with the former Bank of Goodlettsville (now Regions Bank) where he was supervisor of facilities maintenance and also a courier for the bank. He had also owned and operated a lawncare business for 50 years and had worked for Cole & Garrett Funeral Homes.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Downey; his siblings, Bobby (Evelyn) Downey, Joy Jenkins, Ann Phillips, Wanda (Terry) Mathis, Patsy Cook; brother-in-law, Jim Moiser; sisters-in-law, Joyce Moiser, Ursula Hayes, and Druscilla Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation for Thomas will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN on Sunday, June 19th from 2 until 5 PM, and on Monday, June 20th from 10 AM until 12 PM. A celebration of life service will be held Monday at 12 PM followed by entombment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. https://www.coleandgarrett.com
