Thomas Kent McAfee, Sr., 78, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Born on November 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Bruce Thomas McAfee and Wilma Jean Fariss McAfee.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Mary Ruth Judd McAfee. He is survived by his wife, Carol Miller McAfee; his sons, Thomas Kent McAfee, Jr. and his wife, Vanessa; Timothy Kyle McAfee and his wife, Samantha; and Carol’s sons, Scott C. Miller and his wife, Shannon, and Stephen P. Miller and his wife, Katie. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his nine grandchildren; Jake Gunner McAfee, Judd Walker McAfee, Evelyn Ruth McAfee, Emersyn Rose McAfee, Morgan Grace Miller, Ashlyn Joy Miller, Lauren Faith Miller, Ethan William Miller and Austin James Miller.
Tom graduated from Morrison High School and continued his education at Tennessee Technological University. In 1971, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army and completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his honorable military service, he returned to Nashville and earned his MBA at the University of Tennessee. He served 38 years of his life for the State of Tennessee, in the offices of the Treasury and the Department of Employment Security. He was a member of the Tennessee Association of Government Accountants.
Beyond his professional life, Tom was a man of many passions. He was an outdoorsman who found great peace on the water. He made many memorable trips to Canada to fish the lakes and embarked on several adventures to Alaska to fly fish for salmon along the Aleutian Islands. Above all, Tom’s greatest joy was his family. He was a constant presence at his grandchildren’s sporting events, spending countless hours on the sidelines cheering them on with pride.
Visitation will be on Friday July 31, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. and the following morning, August 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. service. All will be at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ, 5800 Edmondson Pike in Nashville. Elders at Woodson Chapel will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial with Military Honors will be at Morrison Cemetery in Morrison, TN at 2:30 p.m. following the service.
