Teddy-Ray-Jones

Teddy Ray Jones was born June 20, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho to Ted and Barb Haskett Jones.

Some of Teddy’s favorite memories were at 3856 Hawthorne Road in Pocatello where he grew up with brother Bobby and sisters Linda, Brenda and Marva.

His musical career began at a young age under the watchful eye of his father. He played in the family band, at fiddling contests, on the back patio and at 17 began playing the honky tonks with Bobby Jones and the Outlaws. Teddy loved to entertain; he played fiddle, guitar, bass, and mandolin, as well as being an extraordinary singer and songwriter.

Teddy met and married Janis Bennett in 1971. The following years were filled with music and travel, first playing with Whitewater and then with Tarwater. In 1979, the Jones family welcomed Katie and in 1982 Bethany was born.

Teddy pastored a small church for many years in Mountain Home. Needing a change, the Jones Family moved to Nashville, TN where Teddy continued to play music. Music doesn’t always pay the bills, so Teddy began driving a truck until he retired in 2013. Teddy had three loves: his family, music and the great state of Idaho.

Teddy Ray Jones passed away on June 22, 2022, two days after his 73rd birthday.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Janis; his children, Katie (Josh) Binkley, Raye Jones, and Mark (Roe) Jones; his grandchildren, Megan, Mylee, and Kenny.

He is also survived by his sisters, Linda (Dewey) Denver, Brenda Jester, Marva (Joe) Kelley, Dianne Jones Ebberts, Alice Harman, and Joan (Bruce) Carroll. Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Barb Jones; his daughter, Bethany; his stepdad, Merl Harman; brothers, Bobby, Orin, and Vern; brothers-in-law, Gary, Fred, and Ross; and his precious little companion, Jay Jay.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends. Teddy was also blessed to have “bonus kids” Ryan, Shannon, Micah, Julie, Matt, Patrick, and Jeff.

At Teddy’s request, no services will be held.

“Live on a song and bring everyone along, share a little hurt, wash away a little dirt, live for the happy times we can find. Now the time has come to leave, from this place I feel so free, thought I heard a sad song flyin’ o’er my head, thought I heard a sad song.”
