Sylvia Rebecca Freeman, age 86, passed away peacefully in her home on January 27, 2022.

A Nashville native, she was a woman of God, a devoted wife and mother, an avid gardener, wonderful home cook, skilled seamstress, and a mixed medium artist. Her cherished maternal grandfather, Arvin Maxwell Keisling, inspired her lifelong interest in botanicals and gardening.

Sylvia Rebecca Freeman was born in Nashville, TN to Evelyn Junita Keisling Williams and John Baxter Williams on October 17th, 1935.

She attended Isaac Litton High School. Before starting her family, she worked as a hair stylist, model, florist, and operator for the Southern Bell Telegraph and Phone Company.

In her youth, she enjoyed skiing, swimming, and dancing. She especially loved visiting Florida beaches.

She married James “Jim” Anderson Freeman on April 12, 1963. They had two sons and celebrated 47 years of marriage before his passing in November 2010. Their lives were devoted to the Lord and to his church. Sylvia and Jim were members of Saint James the Less Church (Madison), Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church (Nashville), and Church of The Redeemer (Nashville). Their church family was dear to them both.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn Junita Keisling Williams and John Baxter Williams; her beloved husband, James Anderson Freeman; her sister, Cynthia Ann Douglas.

She is survived by her sons, James Anderson “Andy” and Barry A. (Michelle) Freeman; grandchildren, Austen Jordan and Juliana Marie Freeman; nephews, Richard, Michael, and Jeffrey Douglas and their respective families.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – 12 noon on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Funeral service will be held immediately after visitation.

Sylvia adored her garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that when spring arrives, plant something lovely in your garden to nurture, or feed the birds in her memory. Donations to Alive Hospice for their immeasurable support are also deeply appreciated.
