Shannon Wayne Wood

Shannon Wayne Wood, 69, of Nashville, Tenn., died peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Born on July 17, 1952, in Charlottesville, Va., Wayne was the only child of the late Shannon and Beverley Wood.

He grew up in Crozet, Va., and graduated from Albermarle High School.

Fondly known as “Woody,” Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Cowan Wood; his two daughters, Stephanie (Steve) Lee of Alameda, Calif., and Mary (Luke) Tidwell of Nashville, Tenn. He was a proud Grandfather to Isaac, Magnolia, and Emerson. He is also survived by loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His canine companion, Albert, will miss him dearly.

After a long and successful career in sales, Wayne owned and operated Stringfellows Music Company in Lynchburg, Va., where he was a long time resident. His love of music and innate guitar talent blessed those who knew him. Wayne was a natural born storyteller who enjoyed interacting with the many people he came across in his career. Later in life, he became an avid motorcycle rider who enjoyed long rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tennessee.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held in Virginia at a later date. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Wayne’s name are asked to consider the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation (brpfoundation.org).

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.marshalldonnellycombs.com for the WOOD family.
