Mrs. Sara Nell Carr Maxwell of Nashville, Tennessee departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2022, she was 95 years old.
She was born on December 9, 1926 in Geneva, Alabama to the late, Henry Fred Carr and Nellie Mae Crutchfield Carr.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Milton B. Maxwell, Sr.; her son, Milton B. Maxwell, Jr and her siblings, four brothers, Henry Jayette Carr, wife, Hilda, Herbert Fred Carr, wife, Lorene, Herman Thad Carr, wife, Doris and Hubert Joel Carr, wife, Ruth and one sister, Helen Edith Sellers, husband, Martin.
Sara is survived by her son, Steve, and wife, Sandy Maxwell, and Eve McMurray Maxwell, wife of the late, Milton B Maxwell Jr. of Nashville; grandchildren, Bransford and wife, Lauren Maxwell, Carson Maxwell, Schaefer and husband, Todd Lane, Kristen Maxwell, Bennett Maxwell and Cooper (family dog) along with Great-grand dogs Gracie, Pims and Olive. As well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Sara graduated from Montevallo University in 1949, with a Bachelor’s Degree in home economics. After graduating, she spent several years teaching at Samson High School in Samson Alabama, where she met her future husband, Milton B. Maxwell, Sr. from Nashville Tennessee. After marriage, she lived in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, as a housewife, raising their 2 children. In 1967, her family moved back to Nashville where she returned to her love of teaching as the director of the testing center at Nashville technical college where she worked until age 85 when she retired after 27 Years.
She was known for her love of cooking and baking, especially her peanut brittle and pecan wedding cookies. She was very creative and artistic, which was showcased in her knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Always ready for an adventure, at age 80, she went parasailing with her grandchildren. She was strong willed individual, who was selfless and her caring spirit was given freely, to those close to her heart, especially her family.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from eleven o’clock in the morning until one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, July 1, 2022 in Dignity Hall of Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Humane Association.
