Roy Wayne Dennis went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2024 at age 72.
Roy was born in Huntsville, Alabama on November 24, 1951 to Paul and Jimmie Dennis. He was the youngest of three children. He grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, he toured the U.S. and Canada playing music as a drummer.
He married the love of his life, Peggy, in 1987. Once his daughter, Shannon, was born, he left touring behind and pursued a career in maintenance supervision in order to spend more time with his family.
Roy played music at every opportunity. Each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, he could be found in the percussion section of Judson Baptist Church’s orchestra.
He was involved in three additional music ministries—Judson Jazz Band, Recovery Church Nashville, and the Global Missions Project. With GMP, Roy travelled abroad to Israel and Austria to, as he would say, “play music for Jesus.”
When Roy wasn’t playing music, he’d be working on a carpentry project, playing with his dogs, or being with his family. He especially enjoyed being “Pop” to his new grandson, Ben.
Roy is survived by his wife, Peggy; his daughter, Shannon; his son-in-law, Hunter; and his grandson, Ben.
