Robert R. “Bob” Carrell passed away November 1, 2021.

Bob was born November 17, 1929, in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Mary Shindledecker Carrell, and Raymond Carrell. He was a member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ. He became a preacher for several Churches of Christ in the Midwest and South. He began preaching while in his teens and “retired” at the age of 82. He served as an instructor and counselor at the East Tennessee School of Preaching, as well as teaching at the Nashville School of Preaching and Biblical Studies. He served as director and teacher at several Bible camps and on the board of the Shultz-Lewis Children’s Home in Indiana. He began his higher education at Abilene Christian College, finishing his bachelor’s degree from Anderson College, and completing a Master’s in counseling from Memphis State University. He enjoyed writing and had sermons and articles published in several books and magazines. Besides a career in preaching, he was a popular, award-winning instructor in several courses in the Dale Carnegie organization.

Bob was a devoted husband to his wife, Juanita, who preceded him in death, being her caregiver for over 40 years after her MS diagnosis. They were married for nearly 59 years. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William “Bill” Carrell and Gene Carrell. Bob had a wonderful bass voice, loved singing, leading singing at church, and playing around on several musical instruments. He sang on the radio during his late teens and early 20’s with a male gospel quartet.

He is survived by his children: David (Marti) Carrell, Rebecca (Phil) McCormick, and Mark (Dianne) Carrell; grandchildren: Jason Carrell, Brad (Kelli) McCormick, Brian Carrell, Cara (Nathan) Brown, Benjamin Carrell, and Kimberly (Drew) Hix; 3 great-grandchildren, Mack Brown, Paul Brown and Joanna McCormick; and a brother, James (Shirley) Carrell.

Arrangements are by Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN with visitation from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. CST, on Friday, November 5, 2021. Graveside service to follow at 3:00 p.m. CST at Woodlawn Cemetery.
