Robert Moore, 81, of Nashville, TN, passed away on November 12, 2024.

Robert was a man of many passions and talents, a lifelong athlete, dedicated public servant, and devoted family man. Born and raised in Nashville, he was known for his unyielding drive and determination to excel in all aspects of life.

As a young man, Robert set track records at Goodlettsville High School, demonstrating early on his commitment to athleticism. His love for sports continued throughout his life, as he pursued various interests from wrestling, where he performed as the “good guy” in local matches, to bodybuilding, which became a significant part of his journey. Robert won first place in the Mr. Tennessee competition in the 1960s, and his success carried him to New York, where he took second place in the prestigious Mr. America competition.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Robert worked for the Tennessee Wildlife Game and Fish as a photographer, helping scientists in wildlife conservation efforts. His time with the agency also inspired a passion for archery, which he pursued through local competitions.

Later, Robert transitioned into a long and distinguished career with the Nashville Police Department, joining in 1976. He served nearly 28 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant in the newly formed Murder Squad, a special unit dedicated to solving some of the city’s most challenging cases. Robert was proud of the work he did as part of that team and of the many lives his efforts helped to bring closure and justice.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Edna K. Moore, father, Thomas E. Moore, sister Bettye Moore-Jenkins, brother John Thomas Moore, sister Emily Moore-Waldrum, and his daughter Penny Jackson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Moore, daughter Hannah Moore, and his grandchildren Brittney Lindsey and Zachary Jackson, along with great-grandchildren Brielle and Layla Lindsey and Hattie Jackson.

Robert’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence in every endeavor he undertook. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, and love, which will continue to inspire all who knew him.
