He was born on May 21, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Marion J. & Stella W. Babb.

He graduated from West End High School and was a member of the Vanderbilt University Civil Engineering Class of 1953. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and fought in the Korean War. He was married to the late Dorothy M. Babb.

Robert was a Registered Engineer in the State of Tennessee and a member of the American Institute of Constructors.
