Robert Jefferson Wilkins passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Nashville, TN.

He was born on May 20, 1940 in Burlington, North Carolina, the son of Levi Peel Wilkins and Ruby Brantley Wilkins.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Jefferson Davis Wilkins and Mary Barker Wilkins and Robert Lee Brantley and Ethel McLane Brantley.

He graduated from Rockingham Senior High School and Elon University, with a major in biology, in 1965. He served in the US Navy and participated in the Bay of Pigs invasion. He taught biology at Western Piedmont Community College. He owned Wilkins & Associates Land Surveying in Mooresville, NC.

He is survived by his long time companion Ann Hammond, sister Molly Wilkins Brady, children Emilee Wilkins McCracken and George Sanders Wilkins, niece Claire Wilkins Tippens and grandchildren Jared McCracken, Elizabeth McCracken and Bella Zoe Wilkins.

He and Ann raised and trained Scottish deerhounds. Their dog earned Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Dog Show in 2013. He leaves behind two devoted Scottish Deerhounds, Tassie and Rossi, in Ann’s loving care.

Or mail a check to Mark Rasmussen, payable to SDCA, with a memo line that reads “For the Bunnie Austin Research Fund in honor of Bob Wilkins”. Mr. Rasmussen’s address is 3841 Amber Lane, Deerfield, WI 53531.
