OBITUARY: Robert “Bob” Earl Dortch III

Robert “Bob” Earl Dortch III, age 83 of Nashville, TN, decided to leave behind the pain and discomfort of earth in the early hours of January 6, 2022.

Bob was born January 22, 1938, to the late Pearl Ileen Temple and Robert Earl Dortch, Jr in Chicago, Il.

He graduated from West End High School in 1957, retired from Opryland Hotel, and lived out his days happily in the same neighborhood as his sister, Georgia.

Bob leaves behind his son, Robert Dortch IV (Christie Stewart); daughter, Christi Dortch (Tim Bush); granddaughters, Joshua Stewart-Dortch (Joe Rollins), Jordan Brae Malone (Kyle) & Caitlin Bush Keiffer (Scott); grandson, Jacob Bush (Kelly); great-granddaughters, Chloe Fern Malone, Mackenzie Alyssa Bush, Skylar Madison Bush; siblings Georgia Carpenter, James Patrick “Pat” Dortch, Deborah Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews & even great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bob passed the time by watching old game shows, westerns, old movies, PBS specials, and televised theatre. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Mathis, 1940s music, and Broadway musicals. He loved family gatherings where he would sit quietly and listen, then surprise everyone with sharp-witted quips. His favorite snacks were the popcorn and pumpkin chocolate chips that he would try to hide in his oven, & cornbread and buttermilk.

A memorial service will be held at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 6 p.m. with visitation beginning at 4 p.m.
