Richard Perkins, of Scottsville, KY passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The Scottsville, KY native was a lifelong farmer. His granddaddy Willl “Pap” Perkins was his biggest spiritual influencer, and he was saved November 13, 1954, at age 17, and joined Cedar Cross Missionary Baptist Church. He remained a lifelong member and was ordained a deacon in 1971 and remained a deacon until his death and served as cemetery caretaker until recent years. He was a founding board member and firefighter for Cedar Springs #1 Fire Department, member of the Allen County Cattleman’s Association and Southern Kentucky Antique Tractor Pullers. He was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson Perkins and Mary Josephine Calvert Perkins.

He is survived by the love of his life whom he married September 27, 1965, Melba Carter Perkins, Scottsville, KY;

1 sister: Pam Costello and husband, Darrell, Scottsville, KY;

9 nieces and nephews: Lesa Watts (Ronnie), Taylor Ward (Tracy), Cory Ward, Jeff Costello (Karen), Wesley Costello (Leigh), Martha Fowler (Jeff), Jenny Bush (James), Eric Carter (Marcia) and Angela Marr (Don);

Several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Billy Perkins; a sister: Carolyn Ward (Temple) and a nephew: Mark Woodward.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Cedar Cross Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. David Swindle and Bro. Robby Calvert officiating and burial in Cedar Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday at Goad Funeral Home. Visitation will then be at 1:00 p.m. until funeral time Sunday at Cedar Cross Missionary Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cedar Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made at Goad Funeral Home.
