Raymond “Ray” Sims, age 88, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

He was born in Jamestown, KY on September 17, 1934.

Preceded in death by parents, James Arthur Sims and Sadie Mae (Williams) Sims.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph (Nancy), Roy and Philip (Susan); and two sisters, Stella (Willis) McClure and Ruth Ann Sims.

Survived by wife of 60 years, Margaret Sue (Garner) Sims; daughter, Ann (Mike) Salyers of Smyrna; granddaughter, Rachel Salyers of Nashville; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray served in the Army, graduated from University of Kentucky and was a big fan of Kentucky basketball and football. He worked for Soil Conservation Service, USDA, as Assistant State Soil Scientist until he retired in 1994.

He was a member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. He belonged to a tool collecting club, NARFE and was a lifetime member of the UK Agricultural Alumni and NRSCS.

Ray’s hobbies and interests include: fishing, growing a garden every year, and collecting old tools. He and my mom were married for 60 years. He and mom enjoyed watching their granddaughter, Rachel, play softball. She played on a travel team for several years and they came to many of the tournaments her team played in.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. (visitation 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Interment with Military Honors Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Murfreesboro, TN.
