Mr. Raymond Earl Buchanan of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, he was 86 years old.
He was born in Cuba Landing, TN to the late Charlie and Annie Buchanan.
He proudly served in the military from 1958 to 1960 and received his GED while in service. He attended Bethlehem United Methodist Church for several years. He worked in the lumber industry throughout his career for Old Hickory Box and Lumber and International Paper.
After retirement, Raymond enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Mary Jane. Some of the countries they explored were China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, the Caribbean, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and several countries in Central and South America.
He had several life-long passions including country music (especially bluegrass), stock car racing, and being outdoors in nature. He loved to take long drives, particularly in the hills of Tennessee.
Raymond’s love for NASCAR racing was legendary. He attended races at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for over 60 years. He made several trips to larger race tracks including Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway, and Nashville Superspeedway.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Bradford Buchanan of Nashville, TN; daughter Lyneve Fulton of Franklin, TN; daughter LaRita Gwie and husband Steve of Lucas, TX; grandsons Brady and Luke Fulton; granddaughters Eliana and Shayla Gwie; sister Jean Troutt of White House, TN; brother Bill Buchanan and wife Madeline of Irondale, AL; sister Bertha DeWeese and husband Jimmy of Old Hickory, TN; sister Loretta Buchanan of Nashville, TN; sister Eva Dugger of Camden, TN; sister Linda Story and husband Doyle of McEwen, TN; nephew Charles Buchanan and wife Carrie Beth of Birmingham, AL; niece Lisa Grayson and husband Eddie of Springfield, TN; nephew Danny Troutt of College Grove, TN.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, May 13, 2022 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 3009 Columbia Ave, Franklin, TN 37064. Craig Golf and James Wynn will officiate. A visitation will be held 10:00 AM-12:00 PM prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.
