Paul-King-Ferguson

The world lost a good man with the death of Paul King Ferguson on March 3, 2023; but our loss is Heaven’s gain.

He was born on July 11, 1943, in Nashville, TN to the late Peter King “PK” Ferguson and Louise Wheeler Ferguson.

Paul is survived by his junior high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 59 years, Linda Ferguson; son, Randy Ferguson; sister, Judy Glass and her husband, Rev. Neal Glass; brother-in-law, Jerry Baker; niece, Anita Beth Baker; nephew, Jonathan Glass, and a host of friends too numerous to mention but always appreciated and never forgotten.

He graduated from Antioch High School in 1961 and Middle Tennessee State University in 1967. He played trombone for both the Antioch High Marching Bears and the MTSU Band of Blue.

To say that Paul was a people person would be a huge understatement. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He had an incredible sense of humor, loved to talk to people, loved to laugh, and loved to make others laugh (often at his own expense).

Paul began his career in music as the band director at Tennessee Preparatory School. He then went on to sell band instruments and uniforms until his retirement in 2009, having served many schools throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. He cherished the relationships he built with his band directors, and loved mentoring them; as well as their students in the furtherance of music education. They were more than just customers, they were his friends.

Paul also served Antioch United Methodist Church as the Choir Director – with his wife Linda by his side as the Organist – for approximately 50 years until their retirement from those positions.

Our prayer is that his dedication to serve, combined with his passion for a quality music program, helped prepare the congregants’ hearts for worship and enriched their lives in some way.

We wish to remember and thank all members of the AUMC Choir for their service and dedication. We would also like to thank the Geriatric and Palliative Care teams at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville for their compassionate care, and the staff of Alive Hospice in Nashville for the remarkable work they do in their care of both the patients and their families.

A Celebration of his life will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either: Antioch United Methodist Church 41 Tusculum Road, Antioch, TN 37013 or Alive Hospice 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203

This would be Paul’s wish as well so as to pay it forward and help others. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
