Opal Louise, a strong-willed and compassionate woman known for her open heart and steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, in White House, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 31, 1928, in Lithia Springs, Georgia, Opal lived a life marked by devotion to family and faith. Opal cherished her family above all else and encouraged us all to “come as you are”. She was a good listener who treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Opal found pleasure in simpler pastimes; loved thrifting and keeping up with her favorite television programs; the Atlanta Braves held a special place in her heart, symbolizing strength, heritage, and resilience. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her greatest joys, serving as cherished moments of togetherness and love with infectious laughter that inspired all.
Opal’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by those she held dear. She is survived by and remembered fondly by her five children: Marie Lynn (Ray), Jeffery Wayne (Donna), Cathy Sue (John), Sandra Elizabeth (Mark), and Melinda Sharon (Terry). The children’s partners remain steadfast pillars in her family’s life. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren who were a source of her immense pride and joy.
Preceded by her parents James Henry and Eula Ivy Moore and nine siblings. From oldest to youngest we acknowledge and honor Bertie Lee, Harvey, Fred, Ab (Albert) Clarence, Ed (William) Opal, Mary, Eleanor and Ralph Moore who joyfully awaited a reunion with her. Their memories remain treasured and woven into the fabric of her life story.
Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Opal’s life on Sunday, May 31 starting at 3:00 PM at Mitchellville First Baptist Church, 1001 McDowell Blvd, Portland, TN 37148.
Opal’s enduring spirit, her boundless love, and her unfaltering faith will long resonate in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her. In her passing, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion, a true testament to a life well-lived.
