Nancy-Anderson-Omer

Nancy Anderson Omer, age 80, of Nashville, TN, peacefully passed away May 14, 2022 surrounded by loving and beloved family members.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James R. Omer Sr.; her three sons James “Rusty” Omer Jr., Chris (Janie)Omer, and Doug (Jill) Omer; her precious grandchildren, Jessie, Chip, Addie Russell, Charlie, Olivia Sloane, and Hope.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Charlene Anderson, her brother Paul Anderson, Jr., and her daughter, Nancy A. Omer. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Judith C. Omer, and her niece and nephew, April and Skip Anderson.

Nancy was born on March 21, 1942, in Trezevant, TN, the second child of Paul and Charlene Anderson. Later the family moved to Milan, TN where Nancy grew up and attended Milan Elementary and Milan High School. During high school, Nancy was a class favorite, beauty queen, member of the Beta Club, and graduated Milan High School with Honors in 1960. She attended The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was chosen as a beauty queen for the Pike fraternity calendar during her freshman year.

While attending UT she met a young law student, Jim Omer and they immediately fell in love – a love that led to marriage in 1963. After college, the young couple, after a short stint in Memphis, settled permanently in Nashville where Nancy, always a dedicated wife, supported Jim’s legal career while raising their family. Nancy was a resolute mother, who possessed a calming demeanor, provided a secure environment, and created a warm and loving home for her three rambunctious and athletic sons. She was able to parent her children using a velvet touch successfully and effectively.

Although Nancy was a striking beauty all her life, her true beauty was the person she embodied: she was a loyal and faithful wife, a dedicated mother, and a steadfast friend. She possessed a kind demeanor, was a generous giver, had a pleasant personality, and was an example for all who knew her.

Nancy was a dedicated Christian, starting on this path and at an early age when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and raised her family to be strong Christians. For years she was an active member of several Baptist Churches, primarily Tulip Grove Baptist Church and Brentwood Baptist Church, where she served as a teacher and on many committees. She and her husband most recently returned to Brentwood Baptist Church, the Church they helped start in 1969, after moving back to the area from their Old Hickory Lake home of 34 years.

After a lifetime of spreading her own warmth and sunlight praising her Lord and Savior, she has gone home to be with Him. She will be an adornment to Heaven. She was an exemplary wife and mother to her children and never let them come home to an empty house. She was a perfect homemaker, gourmet cook, and a friend to all she met. She will be missed by all who got to have her in our lives, and we will miss her dearly.

Nancy was blessed with an amazing life and she and her husband got to travel the world, where she expanded her knowledge and spread the gospel at every chance. She enjoyed family reunions and birthdays most of all, where many annual traditions grew, including seeing her children succeed and watching her grandchildren develop.

Because Nancy was a strong believer in education, was active in her children and grandchildren’s education, and believed in helping others, she and Jim co-established a perpetual scholarship for students in need at both Belmont University and the University of Tennessee. For these reasons, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you donate to Belmont University’s, James R. Omer, and Nancy A. Omer endowment scholarship.

Funeral Services for Nancy will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Ln. Nashville, TN 37204, Visitation will also be Wednesday from 1:00 pm until time of funeral. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
