OBITUARY: Mildred Anne Greer Guthrie ‘Anne’

Mrs. Mildred Anne Greer Guthrie “Anne” passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022, she was 98 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Daniel Guthrie, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Celeste Freeland Guthrie; her parents, Willis Charles Greer and Helen Round Bird Greer; her sister, Helen Jeanne Greer Cook and her brother-in-law, Archie B. Cook.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Greer Guthrie, John Holland Guthrie (Kathy), and David Bradley Guthrie (Teresa); her grandchildren, Matthew Holland Guthrie (Missy), Jacob Carter Guthrie (Courtney), Thomas Cole Guthrie (Renee), Anne Marie Guthrie, Rebecca Lyn Guthrie and Grayson Taylor Guthrie; great-grandchildren, Maymie Leigh Guthrie, Grady Baird Guthrie, Madden Holland Guthrie, Nolen Carter Guthrie, Landon Robert Guthrie, Duke Thomas Guthrie, and Ella Jo Guthrie; nieces, Judy Cook Parnell and Linda Cook Nave.

Mrs. Guthrie graduated from West High School in Nashville and attended Draughons Business College in Nashville. Mrs. Guthrie and her husband owned and operated Richland Ace Hardware on Charlotte Pike in Nashville for 30 years.

Upon retirement, Anne and Dan spent their free time researching their family’s genealogy, in which they amassed volumes of information about their ancestors.

They were avid travelers, having visited China, England, Scotland, and France among other countries. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their motorhome for many years.

After Dan’s death, Anne volunteered for the Friends Learning In Pairs (FLIP) Program in Davidson County elementary schools where she received the Flora McKean Award in 2002 for her outstanding efforts at Harpeth Valley Elementary School. Her interest in genealogy continued, and she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution organization. She was a long-time member of the Crieve Hall Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 4 – 8 p.m. and on Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 10 – 11 a.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11 a.m. by Tim Frizzell and Paul Gerber. Burial services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, August 8, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
