Matthew Onvest Lay, age 51, of Madison, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
Mr. Lay was born October 19, 1973 in Nashville to the late Benny Carl Lay and Mrs. Shelia Smith Lay.
He grew up in Robertson County and graduated from White House High School in 1991. From there he went on to Aquinas College on a partial basketball scholarship. Eventually, he became the Warehouse Manager/Machine Operator at Tapes and Technical Solutions. Mr. Lay loved sports and video games and was a huge fan of U.T. and the Washington Commanders. He played middle school basketball and high school basketball, breaking the record at graduation for the most rebounds as of the 1990-1991 season.
Mr. Lay was an organ donor. More than 50 people will benefit from this unselfish decision.
In addition to his father Mr. Lay is preceded in death by his grandparents, Theo and Wynell Smith and Onvest Hooper and Opal Lay.
In addition to his mother Mr. Lay is survived by his fiancé, Cyndi Rigsby and her family; sister, Vanessa (Jim) McKee; and daughter, Kayla (Grace) Rose. Mr. Lay’s family would also like to add a special mention for his extended family and the owner/boss of Tapes and Technical Solutions, Scott and Pam Hackney and their daughters, Jordan and Olivia; Amber, Brian, and Peyton Clinton; and the dogs he dearly loved, Farah and Phoebe.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 12 pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 am until the hour of service at 12 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
