Mary Catherine Mitchell (Momu), 87, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away surrounded by her family on March 27, 2022. Mary Catherine was blessed with 64 years of marriage to Raymond Walter Mitchell.

Preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Miller Sullivan of Nashville, TN, and her father John Martin Sullivan, Sr. of Louisville, KY, a recipient of The Distinguished Service Cross during WWI; fondly remembered siblings, Helen Sullivan Duke of Nashville, TN, Frances Sullivan Reitz, of Fresno, CA, and John Martin “Jack” Sullivan, Jr. of Nashville, TN.

Survived by her beloved husband, Raymond W. Mitchell; her loving children, Thomas W.(Melissa) Mitchell, Catherine A. (Michael) Williams, Barbara J. (Tom) Sage, William P. (Libby) Mitchell, and Robert A. (Brendie) Mitchell; grandchildren Mitchell, Joell, Emma, Kate, Matthew, Nathan, Landry, Ben, Shae and Parris; and great-grandchildren Edie and Thomas.

Mary Catherine was a very generous, loving person who lived a life of service to God and to others. Mary was a devout Catholic that spoke to God like an old friend and prayed the Rosary every day. She instilled the love of God in her family, providing a home full of love, care, and support.

Mary was a graduate of St. Bernard Academy and Fall Business College. Mary was an active member of St. Edwards Catholic Church for 48 years, while there she served as a Eucharistic minister and a volunteer. She has been involved with the Ladies of Charity since 1973 and held multiple positions including President for four years. She belonged to a Rosary group for over 30 years. She actively delivered Meals on Wheels to local families and individuals. She gave more than she ever received.

Mary Catherine loved to travel with her family, often going on camping trips and cruises for new experiences. She enjoyed spending time with friends in her two card groups and in her YMCA water aerobics group. At any family function, she would love to bring her cards to play, especially with her granddaughter, Kate Mitchell. Mary loved to dance. She would go dancing two or three times a week when she could.

She was an avid sports watcher and would attend all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events when possible. Mary was a keeper of birthdays and addresses. She loved animals and animal movies. She read the Tennessean daily, always starting with the sports section. She loved life and all it had to offer and never met a stranger.

Visitation will be at the Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, Nashville, TN, Monday, April 4, 2022, from 3-6 pm. The Rosary will be said by the Ladies of Charity at 2:30 pm at Hickory Chapel. Visitation will also be at St. Edward Catholic Church at 10 am on Tuesday, April 5 prior to Mass. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Edward Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN, Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 11:00 am.

Interment to follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Mitchell Keeling, Joell Keeling, Landry Mitchell, Phil Kuntz, Tom Sage, and Michael Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mathew Williams, Nathan Williams, and Ben Sage.
