Mary Agnes Hunt Mills Fair was born on May 24, 1929. She departed this world on November 5, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Agnes’s educational journey was marked by a profound commitment to learning. She attended Abilene Christian College and George Peabody College, where she earned her degree in library science. Her passion for history led her to achieve her master’s from Middle Tennessee State University, showcasing her dedication to understanding the world and its stories.
A world traveler at heart, Agnes explored the globe, embracing the sights and cultures that many only dream of. Her adventures took her around the world twice, with a special fondness for England. Her curiosity extended beyond travel; she was an avid reader, often immersing herself in multiple books at once, each page turning into a new experience. In her younger years, while living in Florida, she took on the role of president of the Toastmasters for that region, engaging in the joy of public speaking and connection.
Agnes also shared a profound love for the arts, particularly theater. Her dedication to this passion led her to serve as an usher at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center for over thirty years, where she not only facilitated others’ enjoyment of performances but also fostered her own appreciation for the performing arts.
Her life was further enriched by her active participation in the community, most notably as a cherished member of St. George’s, where she served on the altar guild for many years. Agnes embraced the spirit of service, dedicating her time and skills to enhance the lives of those around her.
Agnes is survived by her loving daughters, Linda Mills and Lori Mills, both of Nashville, Tennessee, and her cherished grandson, Camden Welch of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They are forever grateful for the warm memories and the love that Agnes spread throughout her life.
Agnes was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Mills, to whom she was married from 1952 until 1974, and Harold Fair, her partner from 1976 until 1996. Each relationship left a mark on her life, enriching her journey and shaping the vibrant woman she became.
