Mrs. Louise Butler age 78 of Carthage was transitioned from her earthly journey at 10:04 p.m. Wednesday evening April 30, 2025 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville to begin her heavenly journey with her parents, sisters, husband and fellow Saints.
Mrs. Butler was discovered in respiratory distress on Wednesday morning and an ambulance was dispatched to her Hillcrest Drive North home at 9:08 a.m. and after arrival at the Highpoint Health – Riverview helipad, she was immediately airlifted by LifeFlight to St. Thomas West.
Funeral services from the Carthage chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be conducted on Saturday afternoon May 3rd at 1 p.m. with her pastor Bro. Bryan Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow beside her husband Jimmy, in the Garden of Everlasting Life at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
The Butler family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Friday May 2nd from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral services.
Born Edna Louise Lynch on March 2, 1947, she was one of four daughters of the late Marvin Esker Lynch who died May 9, 2003 at the age of 78 and Vera Virginia Driver Lynch who died June 4, 1989 at the age of 66.
She was united in marriage on July 8, 1966 to Popes Hill Community resident, James Douglas (Jimmy) Butler, who preceded her in death on October 6, 2005 at the age of 56 following thirty-nine years of marriage. The ceremony was performed at the Carthage Bowman Street home of her parents and her father, Eld. Marvin Lynch, was the officiant.
Mrs. Butler was saved at the age of 14 and at the time of her death was a dedicated member of the Winds of Pentecost Church in South Carthage.
Due to ill health, she retired February 28, 2025 from the Quality Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon where she had been employed in housekeeping for over twenty years.
She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Tina Butler of Carthage and her only surviving sister, Frances Lynch Butler and husband Ronnie Sr. also of Carthage, two brothers-in-law, Mac Goodman and Dwain Grisham, both of Carthage.
