Celebrating the Joyful Life of Kelly Grey Austin
June 18th, 1927 – June 28th, 2025
We come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of Kelly Grey Austin; a man whose great sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Kelly’s laughter was contagious, and his stories could brighten even the darkest of days.
Born on June 18th, 1927, Kelly began a remarkable journey that spanned 98 vibrant years. In 1945, at the young age of 18, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the military during World War II as a Seaman Second Class. During his service he obtained the Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Medal. He also served on USS West Point, USS John W. Weeks and USS Hyman. His dedication and courage during these pivotal times contributed to the freedoms we cherish today.
After the war, Kelly’s hands found purpose in woodworking and building furniture. With every piece he crafted, he poured in creativity and love, transforming simple wood into cherished heirlooms. His workshop was a place of innovation and joy. He also loved spending time riding his Honda motorcycle and assisting Veterans.
He was a Godly man, having been baptized at Gallatin Road Church of Christ and later in his years attended Baptist Church. He was also a part of The Masonic Lodge and Madison Eastern Star for 50 plus years, Chief of Madison Civil Defense and a Leslie Jet Deputy Sheriff.
He was a devoted family man, cherishing his loved ones above all else. Kelly is reunited in heaven with his parents, William Clyde and Rubye Austin, and his sisters, Clydene Linville and Shirley Donnell Austin.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children, Linda Sloan and Bobby (Donna) Austin; and special friend, Freda Montgomery, who carry forward his spirit and values. His laughter echoes in the hearts of his grandchildren: Gary (Andrea) Sloan Jr., Michael (Paula) Sloan, Kelly Sloan, Jessica (Kevin) Davis, and Aaron (Kira) Austin and 8 great-grandchildren.
Kelly’s life was filled with joy, humor, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures. His stories and memories will continue to inspire smiles and laughter for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in honor of Kelly Austin to Alive Hospice and/or Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216, 615-865-1101, https://www.springhillfh.com.
