Joyce Parnell Miles, 85, of Goodlettsville, passed away on May 27, 2024, at home in the company of her son after a brief illness.

She was born March 22, 1939, to the late Earline Daily and Lonzo Parnell in Waverly, Tennessee.

Joyce graduated from Mercer High School in Mercer, Pa., in 1957 and later returned to Tennessee where she met her husband, James William Miles.

A homemaker and devout Christian and Baptist, she was a student of the Bible and was well-known for her knowledge of scripture and Christian history.

A quick wit, Joyce was quick to laugh and enjoyed the company of her grandsons. She also provided love, shelter and companionship for many homeless dogs and cats.

Joyce loved bargain hunting, and refinished and restored antique furniture. While living in Whites Creek, she owned a sizeable antiques store at her home.

An avid University of Alabama football fan, on any given fall Saturday, Joyce could be found at home cheering on her team, dressed in Bama fan gear and yelling, “Roll Tide Roll!”

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Betty Stewart; brother Ronnie Parnell; sister-in-law Karen Parnell; and brothers-in-law George Stewart and Joseph Dydek.

Joyce is survived by her son, Jay Lindsey Miles of Goodlettsville; her grandsons Cooper and Austin Miles; and her sister Sue Dydek of Mercer, Pa. Her nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.

Her son will receive guests at the Cheatham County Funeral Home, 117 Elizabeth St., Ashland City, on Saturday, June 1 from noon to 2 p.m. A service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Stewart Cemetery, c/o Faye Patterson, 1037 Iron Worker Road, Clarksville, TN, 37043
