Joyce Dale Vardell, Age 101, of Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late Andrew Cecil and Mattie Collins Dale.
Preceded in death by husband Russell M. Vardell; brothers, Alvin Cecil Dale and Albert Lucien Dale Sr.; sisters, Eleanor Clack and Nelle Stewart.
She is survived by her brother, Oliver Dale; sister, Martha Dale Moss; daughter, Lynn Whiting; Son, Martin C Vardell; grandchildren, Chris Knight, Ricky L. Whiting Jr., and Amber Whiting; great-grandchildren, Ava Hutchinson, Lukas Atkins, Finley Knight, Solene Whiting.
Mrs. Vardell received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle TN State University in August of 1945. Her teaching career began the following month at Joelton High School. Later she was employed by the public schools of Atlanta, GA as a member of the faculty at Russell High School and Hopkinsville High School. She served as a Substitute teacher a few years later in Miami, FL. Her career ended with 30 years at Isaac Litton High School and Middle School until she retired in December 1979.
Upon retirement she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Her family was very important to her. Also, she spent much time traveling with her husband in much of the eastern part of the United States and ended up with extensive stay in Davenport, FL and visiting many nearby places.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 11:00 am until service time at 1:30 pm at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
