Johnny Ralph Mitchell

Ralph Mitchell passed away on November 8, 2021 at the age of 82.

Ralph was born May 4, 1939, to James E. “Ned” Mitchell and Vivian Tidwell Mitchell as the second of 10 children.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by brothers, James E. “Jimmy” Mitchell Jr. and Joe Thomas Mitchell; and his sister, Linda Warpool.

Two brothers and 4 sisters survive (Jerry Mitchell, Nancy Pope, Barbara Mitchell, Elaine Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell, and Sandra Tomlin).

Ralph lived all of his life in the Antioch and South Nashville area and graduated from Antioch High School in 1957 where he was an outstanding Football and Baseball player. Declining a football scholarship to Austin Peay University, Ralph began a career in the trucking industry and married his sweetheart Martha Spivey in 1960, who survives him. Ralph and Martha had 3 sons also surviving, Johnny (Daphne), Randy (Bess), and Tony (Alisa) Mitchell.

In addition to his wife and sons, Ralph is survived by 5 grandchildren who were the joy of his life – Katherine (Sam) Cofer, Blake (Megan) Mitchell, Justin (Liz) Mitchell, Jake (Molly) Mitchell, and Taylor (Josh) Cummings. Ralph was also blessed with 2 great-grandchildren (Audrey Cofer and Ellie Mae Mitchell).

Ralph was a life-long member of the church of Christ, worshipping with the Una Church of Christ where he served for many years as a teacher and as an Elder of the congregation.

Services will be held at Una church of Christ, 1917 Old Murfreesboro Road, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. (Visitation from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) conducted by Josh Pappas, nephew. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are the Elders of the Una church of Christ, Randall and Patsy McGill, Merle and Ann Gordon, and Thurman “Whit” and Sandy Whitworth.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Una Church of Christ, Nashville Inner City Ministry, or Ezell-Harding Christian School http://www.ezellharding.com/give as these were all very important organizations that Ralph supported throughout his life.
