John H Edwards Obit

John H. Edwards (Johnny), age 76, of Old Hickory, Tennessee passed away peacefully within the capable care of hospice on Wednesday night, February 5th, 2025.

Johnny was born on October 29, 1948, to his mother Elaine Colbert and father Jonas Edwards in Nashville, Tennessee. Johnny graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1966 and went on to study at Belmont University. Johnny, as a young boy, always had a voice and a passion for radio. He went on to become a disc jockey in Nashville for several years and later moved to St. Louis to DJ for a major radio station. During his overall stint in radio, he would also go on to start a school that would help other, young aspiring DJs – as he shared his knowledge to the DJ industry.

After leaving the radio world, he moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where he managed a resort-style marina, which was right up his alley with his love of being on the water. Later he moved back to his hometown of Nashville, where he would own and operate “YOUR Transmission Center” on Dickerson Pike for over 30 years. During this time, he so loved his home that backed up to the Cumberland River, with its boat dock and the critters he befriended in that setting. His transmission business was his final working gig before retirement. Johnny had another passion and that was the horse track. Oh he would so enjoy studying the racing forms and the horses in preparation for his weekly Friday trip to the track. Over the past several years, with Johnny being wheel-chair bound from an auto accident, he was so thankful for a few close friends who would make the trip with him and look after his well-being.

John is survived by his sister Debbie Lynn (Foster); nephew, Jonathan (Haley); and dear friends, Henry Bryant III, Gary Fralick, and Rodney & Leslie Coffey.

Johnny, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to all, will be greatly missed, but the memories he left us with we will cherish forever.
