John David Martin, 68, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at Alive Hospice after a courageous battle with numerous illnesses.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Skalka Martin; his children, Josh Martin (Meredith), and Katie Martin; his cherished grandchildren, Annie Castle, Parker Martin, Andrew Martin, and Callan Martin; his brother, Matt Martin (Teri); his sister, Patricia Wamhoff; his sister-in-law, Janice Martin; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Martin; and his parents, Everett and Blanche Martin.
John was born October 27, 1957, in Granite City, Illinois where he lived before moving to Nashville to attend the Free Will Baptist Bible College (Welch). There he met and married the love of his life, Julie, in June of 1985. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and hospitality.
John retired from Beaman Automotive after 31 years of loyal service as an Auto Parts Representative. He loved visiting state and national parks, genealogy research, woodworking, and automotive restoration. He especially cherished family gatherings, where he enjoyed grilling and smoking food for holidays and cookouts. A faithful Christian, he attended West Meade Fellowship, where he sang bass in the choir. Friends and family will remember him as hardworking, humble, faithful, and quietly dependable, with an unexpected sense of humor and a favorite expression: “Great Googly Moogly.” John’s legacy is one of steadfast faith, unwavering love for his family, unceasing perseverance, and quiet strength. His life was an example of humility and devotion to God.
Visitation to be held at West Harpeth Funeral Home on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and the following day from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral service will be on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM immediately followed by burial at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. There will be a reception at West Meade Fellowship afterwards where the family invites you to share stories and remembrances.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Alive Hospice, American Cancer Society or Wounded Warrior Project.
