A Christian Lady, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Jean Glidwell age 88 of Carthage, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Saturday evening November 1, 2025 at 6:55 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was pronounced deceased at 7:50 p.m. by Heather Lowe, a nurse with Gentiva Hospice of Livingston, who had been lovingly assisting the Glidwell family with her care.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be conducted by Bro. Brian Flynn on Wednesday afternoon November 5th at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Section three at the Ridgewood Cemetery in Carthage, beside her husband of fifty-six years.
The Glidwell Family will receive friends on Tuesday November 4th from 1 p.m. until 7. p.m. and again on Wednesday December 5th beginning at 11 a.m. at Sanderson in Carthage.
Mrs. Glidwell was the fourth of seven children, and the last surviving of three sons and four daughters, born to the late Colonel Dotson “Papa Doc” Thompson who died at the age of 71 on July 31, 1974 and Mary Estelle Givens Thompson who died at the age of 79 on April 14, 1993 and was born Betty Jean Thompson in the Andy Hollow in South Carthage on August 5, 1937.
The six siblings preceding her in death were; Colonel A. “Riley” Thompson who died August 20, 1999 at the age of 68, Letcher Dotson Thompson who died April 19, 2006 at the age of 64, Amelia Bell Thompson Huddleston who died June 10, 2007 at the age of 72, Linda Joyce Huddleston Neal who died July 24, 2011 at the age of 70, Johnny Clarence Thompson who died November 19, 2014 at the age of 74, and Narce Frankie Thompson Huddleston who died February 4, 2015 at the age of 82.
On November 18, 1960 at the Ivy Memorial Baptist Church on Trinity Lane in Nashville, she was united in marriage to Bobby Gene (Bob) Glidwell, who was a native of Trenton in Gibson County, Tennessee and who died at the age of 84 on September 13, 2023.
Mrs. Glidwell attended Smith County High School and was a recipient of her General Education Degree and was a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Before her retirement she was employed in the office of the late Dr. Lillard R. Sloan who died at the age 47 on January 28, 1958 and later in the office of the late Dr. Hugh Edward Green who died at the age of 79 on July 17, 1999 and retired in 1980 from the J. P. Brown Drug Company in Nashville.
Mrs. Glidwell was saved as a young lady and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Drapers Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Glidwell loved all music but as almost everyone she had a favorite singer, and that was Elvis Presley.
Surviving are her three children, Bobby Glidwell Jr. of Carthage, James Dotson (Jimmy) Glidwell of Lebanon, Cindy Glidwell and fiancée Kolt of Lafayette; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a niece that was like a daughter, Brenda Beasley and husband Chris of Cookeville; sisters-in-law, Patsy Glidwell of Gadsden, Alabama, Hazel McComb and husband Leroy of Hendersonville, TN; brothers-in-law, James Glidwell and wife Kathy of Milan, TN, William Glidwell & wife Diane of Gallatin, Charlie Glidwell & wife Eloise of Tupelo, Mississippi.
